Analysis

Purpose: This posters purpose is to inform movie goers about this movie and who's in it and when its out, it's other purpose is to also sell the film by making it look spectacular and must see.  It certainly informs the audience as various characters can be seen on the poster and the date can clearly be seen at the bottom. It does a good job of selling the film as the posters looks visually striking letting the audience know this film is not one to be missed.

Format: The format of this graphic design is a poster.

Content: The writing is very minimal as most of the writing in the bottom third of the poster. The title of the film can clearing be seen as its the biggest writing on the poster and below it shows writing that can hardly be seen which implies the insignificance of the wiring underneath; however the release date is in a bold red font to make to stand out over the white writing next to it.

Style: This posters looks visually striking because the colours of red and white contrasts each other in a very powerful way. The red could represent danger or evil and the white could represent hope which suggest that evil is taking over as there is more red in the poster.

Layout:  The layout is very generic with all the characters taking up two thirds of the poster with the final third being the text e.g title, date.

Target Audience: It's primary target audience is bored aged between 12-16 who like si-fi action films and with a secondary audience of young adults of any gender. Also Star Wars has huge fanbase so in order to appeal to that audience they must feature fan favourite characters to keep them intrigued.

Regulatory bodies: The British Board of Film classification (BBFC) are the company that put classifications on film. Each classification depends on things such as, the genre of the film and how much sex, violence and bad language there is in the film. Ofcom has wide ranging powers across the tevelviosn, radio, telecoms and postal escorts and their main job is to protect the public from what might be considered harmful or offensive material.

Purpose: The purpose is get people to eat at "The office". The billboard gets people thinking with the word "Boss" and the image of the burger and beer whoever or not they'd like to eat there; so another purpose would be to grab peoples attention as they pass by and they definitely succeed with clear but simple message "Eat and Drink like a Boss".

Format: The format of this graphic design is a billboard

Content: The two big chunks of texts are on either side so the billboard doesn't feel congested on the billboard. On the right hand side it has the words "eat and drink like boss" with the word boss in capital letters to make it stand out putting real empathise on that word and immediately drawing people to that word. On the right hand side it has the logo of the company so people know where to go. The image in middle that separates the two chunks of texts is of a burger and a beer which would get anyones head turning

Style: The background of slightly faded bricks fits really well with the theme of a pub which creates a ladish tone to the billboard. The type of language used is very simplistic and vague which suits then target audience. The word choice of "Boss" makes the target viewer feel empowered ..,

Layout:

Target audience: There primary target audience is middle-aged, middle class men who like drinking and eating at bars and pubs with a secondary audience of young adults who like handing out with friends and going out for a drink or two. Both these demographics would have a good income rate.

Regulatory bodies: Advertising standards Authority (ASA) are an independent regulator for advertising across all media platforms. They act on any complaints made and proactively check the media to take down any misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements.

Early concepts

Concept ideas

Name: The word "Origin" is all about where you've come from and the journey you've taken to get there.

Style: The Raven represents my spirit animal so when linking that idea in with the word Origin, my aim is to show that the Raven in the design symbolises myself and who I am and where I've come from. This can also be tied in with the meaning of the word Origin of a Raven and how like Humans birds tend to start small and grow, which was my idea for the first design by having the wings spread out imply the Raven has come along way. The words "Since 2000" is to show when I was born and the Raven next to it is relatively small implying that we all start off small and grow into something bigger. To make the design more personal to the buyer they could choose there own animal or spirt animals along with the year they were born to really put emphasis on the word Origin.

Font: The font looked and felt quite ancient to suggest that the word Origin has been around along time. It also gives me option of having the letters in a grid or not which is great for creating variety of designs.

Colours: I chose black and white because there two contrasting colours creating a classy look to the design.

Packaging: look very simple but effective

Target audience:  The target was 16-25 year olds, male because I feel that the Raven is a more masculine animal and would suit the male gender better. The style of it suits young adults because the design looks quite sharp, slick and smooth which is perfect for the target audience.

Name: Unlike that last concept the name is quite general and very much open to interpretation. I chose the name because I quite liked the si-fi aspect of it and what it means to be Human.

Style: I decided to have the words in big letters to emphasise the message which is that were all human beings. The hand signifies a part of the body but it could have been any part of the body e.g. eyes, foot, mouth etc; I felt that the hand was more symbolic to us as Humans. The style of the hand fits in well with the font and hows aq bit of intensity which is very important. If I wen dated to expand of the idea of identity I could my own hand print for the hoodie, equally the buyer could do the same as well. Going back to the theme of is-fi the Alien head obviously represents an Alien but the idea was to question if we are even Human in the first place with an ironic contrast between the words "Human Being" and the Alien head.

Font: The font is very futuristic incorporating a few si-fi elements.

Colours: The black and the grey create this mysterious vibe attached to the design which ads to the the meaning of the design

Packaging: The packaging design was inspired by DNA and how it looks which is why the words have been duplicated.

Target audience: It suits my target audience of 16-25 years, both genders, because it appeals to the nerdier, more si-fi based teenagers out there as I believe there isn't a big enough market for s-fi related designs.  The ironic pun on the right hoodie design will also make a fun design to wear, attracting a secondary audience to the design.

Name: The name was inspired by the elements that make up the Earth.

Style: The first design uses a silhouette of the elements

Font: The font has a captivating gradient

Colours: The red represents the Earths core and the balk represents the fear of the elements. By having a red hoodie and black design it creates an appealing contrasts between the colours.

Packaging: The packaging is consistent with the colour scheme. The bold letters make it stand out. BY having

Target Audience: A lot of pop art is inspired by the elements (water, fire and wind) which is very popular amongst teenagers and young adults between the ages of 16-25 years olds. I would say this designs favours more male audiences because stereotypically black and red are more dominant colours which suit the male gender more than the female gender.

BUGDET

Jerry from True Soldier will be screen printing our hoodies but if I was freelance graphic designer it would costs me £20 per screen. Each colour requires its own screen, so a four colour design will require four screens. The design that will be printed will need to either in a vector based format or as a high resolution Photoshop file or Jpeg.

As a freelance designer the average hourly rate would be £40.

To be able to print by yourself you would need suitable equipment:

  • Emulsions- Ryonet stocks a large selection of high-quality emulsions for both the complete exposure systems and the screen printing emulsion processes. Our most popular and best selling Dual Cure emulsion is the very product we include in every one of our Ryonet silk screening starter kits. Forgiving and easy to use, the Dual Cure Emulsion is also recommended for anyone who is just getting started with screen printing.

  •  Aluminum Frames- Ryonet offers aluminum screen printing frames that are pre-stretched and made in the USA. All of the frame sizes here are calculated by the outer dimension. Constructed with 6063T5 alloy, hand-cut and welded, and sanded smooth, our aluminum frames are strong, watertight, and completely flat. We carry frame profiles ranging from 1 x 1 inch to 1-3/4 x 4 inch, wall thicknesses of 1/16 inch or 1/8 inch, size ranges of 3 x 3 inch up to 14 x 14 inch, and mesh thread counts ranging from 24 to 420 tpi.

  • Screen printing presses- Ryonet offers the widest variety and selection of silk screening presses in the United States, from 1 and 4 color table-top presses for entry-level screen printers, smaller shops and hobbyists, to our line of 4, 6, and 8 color Riley Hopkins presses for larger screen printing businesses.

  • Washout Booths- Because properly disposing of ink, emulsion by-products, and other chemicals is critical, screen washout booths, dip tanks and filtration systems are an essential part of keeping your screen printing preparation and reclaiming room efficient and clean. For small shops and projects, dip tanks are a perfect way to prevent waste solids from damaging the environment, ruining plumbing, and clogging up septic systems

LEGAL AND/OR ETHCIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Copyright Law: The current act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The law gives the founders of literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works, sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical arrangement of published editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used. This basically means I couldn't use a pre-existing design such as a football badge however the Raven outline is universal design meaning no one owns; so I can use it.

Libel Law: Libel is a method of defamation expressed by print, writing, pictures, signs, effigies, or any communication embodied in physical form that is injurious to a person's reputation, exposes a person to public hatred, contempt or ridicule, or injures a person in his/her business or profession.

Defamation: Defamation is a spoken or written expression which is deemed to harm the reputation of an individual and proved to be false. Defamation law can be intricate and complex; our guide will help you understand defamation law.

Offensive material:  Any published or broadcast content ( such as articles, photographs, films or websites) that is like to be upsetting, insulting or objectionable to some people.

Representation: Media representations are the ways in which the media portrays particular groups, communities, experiences, ideas, or topics from a particular ideological or value perspective.

Final Design

I chose the design above because it looked slick, stylish and smart. The design itself is very simplistic as all it is, is a bird with a word over the top. The Raven represents my spirit animals and the word origin meaning where you've come from. This design is incredibly versatile as you can choose any compination of colours and the design would still hold meaning and to make it more personal to the buyer they could choose their own animal or spirit animal fro the design. One of the feedback for the design was to have 2000 in Roman numerals however 200 in Roman numeral is MM which wouldn't look great and people who aren't familiar with Roman numerals wouldn't undertsand what it meant, whereas if the Roman numeral has an X or and I in it then they would know it is Roman numerals.
