Images

I have selected these six images because of their technical quality.

Edited images

Original image: For my original image used a wide aperture for the whole image which allows the lights in the background to stand out from the foreground and makes the lights look like small circles which creates a mystical atmosphere. I also took the picture along the curve starting at the fence through to the end of the lights; the curve should indicate the eye line of the viewer.

I turned the brightness down to make the lights in the background even brighter and to emphasise the mystical atmosphere of the image.

Original image: This image was taken outside the hippodrome, where a line of taxi's were waiting for customers to aboard their four-wheeled vehicle. This shot sums up Night life in Bristol, with Taxi's waiting to take drunk, tired or confused citizens of Bristol.

The image was cropped to four singular taxi's and I felt this was a simplistic way of showing the taxis' loneliness and isolation as they sit there ready and waiting.

I cropped the image to the edge of the curve so the eye line of the viewer follows it through and it cuts of the unnecessary part on the right hand side.

I increased the temperature to add a new layer to the image which contrast with the darker image, even though the atmosphere for both is still mystical the right image has a lighter tone to the left image. With the two contasting times I flipped and the put the next to each so it looks like the image has been mirrored. The two conflicting images represent the two different aspects of Bristol; nights and day.

I put the image in a black and white filter to emphasise how lonely these Taxi drivers are and to show Taxi's have been around along time in big Cities such as Bristol. I then played around with the tones of the image to emphasise the darker parts of the image and to make it look more out-dated. This came me very somber atmosphere to my image.

To enhance the vintage and retro feel to the image I added an orange filter over the top which creates an ominous atmosphere, as it looks like mist has been astroturfing over the image. The reason I wanted to make the image look retro and old-fashioned is to show that Taxi's have been a part of British culture for a long time, as they are ever-present in big Cities like Bristol.

Original image: For my original image I purposely made the perspective of the image from the plant to make it look bigger than it actually is. I used a wide aperture for the background to make the plant stand out even more and makes it looks empowering over the City of Bristol.
I first cropped the image and used the rule of thirds so that the two lines horizontal lines and the two vertical lines either touch the plant or are inside the plant to enhance and emphasise the four of the image

I then played around with the light levels of the image which gave me shadows under the bridge and on the underside of the plant, this gave the image an extra layer and meaning. Also the right hand side is lighter which gave me contrasts to the left hand side.

One of my biggest passions is Rugby. So, I decided to take a picture of my rugby boots from a birds eye view because you can then see all the intricate details, on the boots, on display such as the laces, the sole and the brand logo, along with the brands design. My inspiration for taking this image was the black and whiten photo on the right hand side which I aimed to replicate . The reason I liked that photo was because it represented the boots as muddy, worsen out and looked like it had been through wars which represents rugby in the best way possible.
Once again I cropped the image, this time it was to make the two verbal lines go through the boots to emphasise the focus off the image.
I turned the clarity up to make the image visually clear and striking. In next stage in the editing process I was to add a black and white filter over the top, but before I took the colour out it was important that I'd made the image sharp and precise,.
The final stage was to slap on the black and white filter over the top. As the sole and the stripes on the outside were blue, I turned down the blue to make the stripes even darker and to create a shadow within the sole of the boot.

For my final edit I chose to combine two images; the rugby club and a graffiti of the Clubs mascot. These two pictures were taken at Nailsea and Backwell R.F.C which is a place I am extremely passionate about as the first image encompasses everything at the club; the clubhouse, the pitch and the car park. The other image is of a graffiti image of a Raven, which is the clubs logo.
With the sky gone I left space for the Raven to replace the sky and to add aim which is to include encompass everything that makes Nailsea and Backwell R.F.C what it is.
To make the two image seem like one I blended them together by using the levels.
I the cut the sky out as I felt it didn't fit in with the theme of the rugby club and felt it was unnecessary for it to be in the final image. Also the sky was very bland and dull as iwanted to add some depth and a new layer to the image

I first cropped the image so that the main pillar in the foreground is on the left vertical line as I wanted the pillar to stand out and for it too be the main part of the clubhouse.
I joined the two layers together to create one image while also adding a black and white filter over the top.
The product

For the last stage of the unit we had to create a book with pictures we've taken and edited. Above you can see the five images I had previously edited, all laid out in particular way. The theme for the images were "My Passions" which is expressed through imagery, my two main passions shown in my final piece were Rugby and Bristol. On the left side is a variety of pictures of Bristol with two wide landscape shots across the page to show the images in the best light; the words Bristol are in capital letters above to make it clear wear those images were taken. On the right side are two pictures to do with Rugby both in black and white which creates a mysterious and somber atmosphere.

The idea behind this composition was that I wanted to capture some of the Bristol's night life. This summed it up perfectly as it shows four taxi's waiting ominously for citizens of Bristol. The meaning behind this image was to express how timeless Bristol is which why the tone is very old school.
One of my biggest passions is Rugby which is why I decided to take a picture of my boots and of the Rugby Club. The boots are the ones I currently wear at the moment. I decided to put the back and white filter over the top so emphasise the wear and tear of rugby boots and to show that the boots have had rough few years enduring mud and rain.
The second image was of the rugby with the left hand side showing part of the club and with the sky being replaced by a Raven which is the clubs logo. The image represnts where I've come from and the club that I represent. The meaning behind this image was to show how its all one club with the Club and Raven joining together to make one image.

This image repents a unique part of Bristol displaying leafs and a bridge in the background which has been purposely darkened to make it look mysterious and eerie. The meaning behind this composition was to imply that Bristol has some hidden gems to be seen or found.
My other passion if you haven't already noticed is Bristol. One of the best attracts in Bristol is the Harbourside which why I wanted to capture the individuality of the harbourside. Meaning behind the image was to convey then two different sides of Bristol left side being night and right hand side being day.
